Cannabis Module: Legal and Regulatory Controversies

Relevancy Statement
Though there is tremendous interest in Cannabis products, there is significant variability across states regarding availability and regulation. The relevance of this instructional module is that it will provide the participant with the background on Cannabis regulation at both the state and federal level, and initiatives by the FDA to provide the regulatory framework for CBD-containing products.
Learning Objectives
At the completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe how marijuana and CBD are regulated on the state and federal levels
- Explain the impact of the 2018 Agricultural Improvement Act (aka, the “Farm Bill”)
- State the legality of CBD in drugs, foods, and supplements under the Food Drug & Cosmetic Act
- Describe initiatives by the FDA to regulate cannabis medicines
