Formulations, Dosing, and Adverse Effects
2.0 hour online/home study education module
The cannabinoids are not readily derived from the Cannabis plant. They need to be extracted and are increasingly provided in dosage forms that patients find more tolerable than smoking. Each dosage form has unique characteristics that influence where, how much and how quickly of the compound gets into the body, how long the effects last, and the adverse effects experienced. Patients need assistance understanding these characteristics and how their choices may mitigate or minimize adverse effects.
Learning Objectives
At the completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain how medical cannabinoid products are derived from the Cannabis plant.
- Describe the differences in how quickly, how long and how reliably various Cannabis formulations get into the body.
- Suggest doses patients could use based on their disease state and chosen product.
- Appropriately counsel patients on potential adverse effects and recognize when they occur.
